Tracking Differences

USPS and USPS through Asendia offer similar services, but they have differences in how their tracking works. Packages shipped with a USPS service are immediately trackable on the USPS website, usps.com. Packages shipped through Asendia will be given a number that can be used on Asendia’s tracking website, asendiausa.com/tracking. There will not be any tracking updates for 3-4 days after you receive the shipping notification from Vyking Ship: this is the amount of time it takes for your package to arrive and be processed at  Asendia’s facilities. Once Asendia processes your package, it can be tracked on the USPS website. Beyond this, the services are very similar. All packages travel to Chicago, Illinois to their international service center (ISC). Packages are then processed through US customs to be cleared for export before being given back to USPS. Packages then go to the nearest airport to fly out of the country.

Insurance for World Tracked and First Class packages is not available for packages being delivered to the following countries:

  • Algeria
  • Angola
  • Belarus
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Burundi
  • Cote d’ivoire (Ivory Coast)
  • Croatia
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
  • Jordan
  • Liberia
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • Paraguay
  • Republic of the Congo
  • Russia
  • Serbia
  • Sierra Leone
  • Sri Lanka
  • Sudan
  • Togo
  • Yemen
  • Zimbabwe

Claims/Inquiries

If you are looking to open an inquiry or file a claim for a USPS package, if you are seeing no updates after the package has reached or been processed through the Chicago ISC, similar to the screenshot below:

shipping info inquiries claims

It is very likely that the package is in US customs. Inquiries cannot be opened on packages at this stage. US customs has the ability to hold packages for as long as is necessary to clear the package for international travel, and the USPS cannot contact US customs offices regarding these packages.

If the above does not apply to your shipment, once the specified waiting time has passed for your shipment, an inquiry or claim can be started, depending on the service you selected.

If you selected a USPS service that doesn’t offer inquiries but has insurance, you will need to email our support team at support@vykingship.com with the following:

  1. A written statement from yourself, stating that the package has not been delivered
  2. All invoices/purchase receipts for items that were included in the package

For all other services, email support@vykingship.com with your tracking number in the subject line, and request an inquiry or claim to be started on that package. Vyking Ship will start one on your behalf. Claims can only be opened on USPS packages after an inquiry has determined the package to be lost.

April 15th, 2022: At this time, all of the carriers we send packages through have suspended service to Russia and Ukraine. We will update this as service availability changes, but we do not have any information as to when these suspensions will be lifted. We will work with all customers affected by these suspensions.

The USPS has also suspended most services to New Zealand. Packages sent through USPS or USPS through Asendia to New Zealand can only ship via Express.

USPS service to Australia has also been limited. If you are shipping through USPS or Asendia, you must select Express, First Class, or World Tracked.

Any payments received for shipping options that are not available will be refunded, and the package will be re-entered into your Vyking Ship account.

Please contact us if you have any questions. For a list of USPS service suspensions, please visit their website: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/
